Feline Facts – Black-Footed Cats: The Purrfect Predator

All cats are skilled hunters, but one stands out with an astounding success rate of over 60%. The black-footed cat is native to Africa and is the smallest wildcat on the continent. Despite their diminutive size, they are superior hunters.

Black-footed cats are nocturnal and, unlike most felines, are actually poor climbers. Because of this, they chose to live in burrows, usually claiming an empty den of another animal and widening the structure to fit their needs. Females will often use termite mounds to have their litter of kittens. This is how they earned the nickname miershooptier, meaning ‘anthill tiger’!

-PS. I refused to apologize for the pun!
